Stylist Spotlight
Michelle Arcona
Hello to all you awesome people who take the time to read our salon blog!! PP here!
This month, we are featuring our not-so-newish stylist Michelle. For those of you who don’t know her, meet our crazy talented blonde specialist. This girl kills it in the balayage and highlight world.
I decided to do a short Q&A with Michelle so that everyone can get familiar with what she has to offer…
Q: How did you get started in the cosmetology industry?
A: Fashion and beauty has always been an interest of mine for as long as I can remember. So I decided after highschool to persue a career in the hair industry and enrolled in beauty school.
Q: How long have you been a stylist?
A: I can’t believe it, but this is my 15th year in the salon industry. I guess time really does fly when you are having fun, lol.
Q: What is your favorite service to perform in the salon?
A: Patricia! You should know this already… Blondes!!! Balayage, Foilyage, Highlights… Too many styles and techniques to pick just one. I am obsessed with helping clients achieve the most brightest and beautiful blonde shades their heart desires.
Q: Besides being totally kick ass at blondes, why don’t you tell the readers about your other passion at the salon.
A: I love, love, love hand-tied extensions. There is nothing better then giving a client the long luscious locks they’ve always dreamed of. Pair that with a blonding sesh, and you have a make over to die for!!!
Q: Who is the perfect candidate for hand-tied extensions?
A. Hand-tieds work best with clients that have medium to fine hair looking for length or volume…or both!
Q: Are hand-tied extensions damaging to your hair?
A: With all extension types, there is a small chance of damage to your hair if the maintenance schedule is not followed. If taken care of properly, hand-tied extensions can be one of the most manageable type of extension you can choose to do.
Q: Ok, so how do I take care of my extensions once they are in?
A. The aftercare is super important! Brushing your hair thoroughly on a regular basis is a must to avoid knotting and matting in your hair. However, you do need to be gentle when doing so, going at your hair like a mad woman with the brush can loosen the extensions. So don’t pull too hard.
Q: What about washing my hair with extensions in?
A: Less is more when it comes to wearing extensions. Washing 1-2 times a week is plenty, and will keep your locks looking good. Dry Shampoo is a lifesaver!
Q: Can I let my extensions air dry?
A: At the very least, after washing your hair, you should dry your roots. Drying your extensions can be very time consuming depending on how long they are, and how much thickness and volume it adds to your hair. If you don’t see yourself being able to blow-dry your hair after you wash it, this is definitely something to consider.
Q: Do I have to doing different when styling my hair?
A. Nope! You can style your hair as you normally would. Your new luscious locks can handle the heat, so you can curl or straighten which ever you prefer!
Q: How long can I expect my hand-tied extensions to last?
A: When well taken care of, you can expect your extensions to last for about 3 months. At the half way point (around 6 weeks), we do a maintenance appointment to move the beads back up. (These beads have your natural hair in them and are beaded into the weft. So they move down with natural hair growth.)
